This week’s instalment of Music Monday is Addicted to Love by Robert Palmer from their 1986 album, Riptide. The Florence + the Machine version is from their 2010 single, Addicted to Love.

Palmer’s version is inseparable from its music video, with deadpan models miming instruments in matching black dresses and red lipstick, one of the defining images of 1980s MTV. Florence Welch drops the gloss entirely, replacing it with her trademark drama and power, turning the new wave hit into something bigger and more orchestral while keeping the same message intact: love as an unstoppable compulsion.
