This week’s instalment of Music Monday is Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen from his 1984 album, Various Positions. The Jeff Buckley version is from his 1994 album, Grace.

Cohen wrote dozens of verses before settling on the final version, and Columbia almost didn’t release the album at all. The song went nearly unnoticed until Buckley’s spare, aching take on Grace turned it into one of the most covered songs of the past 40 years.
