This week’s instalment of Music Monday is I Will Always Love You by Dolly Parton from their 1974 album, Jolene. The Whitney Houston version is from their 1992 album, The Bodyguard.

Parton wrote the song in 1973 as a farewell to her business partner and mentor Porter Wagoner when she decided to pursue a solo career. It reached number one on the US Billboard Hot Country Songs chart twice, in 1974 and again in 1982. Houston’s version for The Bodyguard spent 14 weeks at number one on the Hot 100, won Record of the Year at the 1994 Grammys, and became the first 1990s solo music video to surpass one billion YouTube views.
