This week’s instalment of Music Monday is Redemption Song by Bob Marley and the Wailers from their 1980 album, Uprising. The Johnny Cash & Joe Strummer version is from their 2003 album, Unearthed.

Cash and Strummer recorded this together almost by chance. Strummer was visiting Rick Rubin’s studio in 2002 while Cash worked on American IV, they got talking about Jamaica and decided on the spot to cut Marley’s song, with Tom Morello on guitar. It surfaced the next year on Unearthed and stands as one of Strummer’s final recordings before his death months later.
